I Thought Posing Was Stiff—Boudoir Proved Me Wrong

Boudoir photography was never something I initially envisioned as a defining part of my creative journey. In fact, I didn’t have much interest in studio photography or the concept of posing. I’ve always been the type of photographer who loves to capture raw, unfiltered moments. Posing, to me, felt stiff, unnatural, and, quite frankly, a bit forced. But when boudoir entered my life, it pushed me far beyond my comfort zone in a way I never expected—and over time, it helped me embrace the art of posing in a whole new light.

What sets boudoir apart is its deeply personal and intimate nature. It’s not just about taking “pretty” photos—it’s about creating an experience that makes you feel empowered, comfortable, and confident. And to achieve that, posing plays a crucial role. At first, I resisted it, but I began to realize that posing isn’t about stiff, awkward positions; it’s about guiding you to find your most authentic, beautiful selves, while still allowing for the natural flow of personality and emotion!

This shift in my approach also allowed me to evolve as an artist. One of the things I’ve grown to love is experimenting with lighting—specifically high-contrast lighting. Boudoir photography has given me the freedom to use light in ways that completely change the mood and energy of the session. Whether it's soft, diffused light that evokes a sense of calm and tenderness, or bold, dramatic shadows that add depth and mystery, light has the power to transform an image entirely. This exploration has become one of my favorite elements of boudoir photography, allowing me to inject more of my personal artistic voice into each shoot.

But what truly makes boudoir photography so rewarding is the delicate balance between my own creative instincts and your vision. Every session starts with a consultation, where we talk about your goals, ideas, and what makes you feel beautiful. Some clients come with detailed Pinterest boards, while others put their trust in me to guide the way. I take all of this into account, always striving to blend my unique style with their personal desires. This balance—between my creative expression and the intimate connection I have with my clients—has become one of the most fulfilling parts of my work.

Preparation is key to making each session successful, and I put a lot of thought into mentally and creatively preparing myself. Before you arrive, I review any notes or inspiration pages you’ve shared with me, ensuring that I’m ready to bring your vision to life. Beyond the practical details like setting up the studio and preparing champagne, I focus on creating an environment where you feel comfortable and at ease. With a shot list in hand, a vision board saved, and all the tools I need, I’m ready to make sure you feel confident and beautiful every step of the way!
